“The great racehorse “Seabiscuit” was a story that played out against Americas Great Depression. It was a story full of hope, love, conquest, identity, and faith. When America needed him most. “Seabiscuit” became the working mans hero and the most remarkable thoroughbred racehorse in history (Hillenbrand tape 1).. “Seabiscuit” competed in the cruelest years of the depression; the rags-to-riches horse emerged as an American cultural icon. Through the depression he shined. In the eyes of a nation he proved to be a stable in many lives. “Seabiscuit” gave hope and courage to an American nation.”
History does often repeats itself and on Feb / 2009 Mr. Andy Larentzakis purchased the great pigeon , also called “Seabiscuit” and he truly is a “workings mans hero” prepared to help fanciers in both the USA and Canada achieve their “rags to riches dreams”. Andy is to be congratulated for having the foresight and the courage to bring the genetic heritage of this great racing machine to Canada. It is not often that our sport has access to what is clearly an absolutely incredible racing cock with an equally incredible genetic heritage second to none in Canada or the world for that matter.
There was a fierce competition for the acquisition of this incredible specimen that , due to the magic of the internet, many fanciers from around the world were able to view, daily as it unfolded. Many famous European fanciers sought to acquire this prize. The main rivals were Germany and Canada with brief appearances from both Belgium and the Netherlands. Fortunately for fanciers in North America ,Canadian ,Andy Larentzakis prevailed on the 50th bid with only one minute to spare. Mr.Larentzakis displayed great determination and “Seabiscuit” was acquired for €14,600 (24,388.71 CAD)!
“Seabiscuit” is currently being bred by Mr.Jose Thone in Europe and we will be bringing him to Canada in the fall of 2009. The fact that Jose Thone is currently beeding his very top hens to “Seabiscuit” speaks volumes for both his ability as an outstanding performance pigeon as well as his outstanding ability as a pre potent sire.
